Klas Gagge has always been deeply interested in chamber music, and in 1985, as a member of the Brio Quartet, he received the first string quartet diploma at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. The Brio Quartet was also awarded the Royal Swedish Academy of Music’s major international scholarship and a scholarship from the Sten Frykberg Memorial Fund and made a recording of Algot Haquinius’ String Quartet in A minor for Musica Sveciæ.

Klas Gagge has also played in the Sergel Quartet and the Meng Quartet. The latter was formed in 2000 and has toured China and more. Since 2018 he has been a member of the Maier Quartet, that for the dB Productions label has recorded string quartets by Amanda Maier and Ethel Smyth, both world premieres on CD. For the same label, together with pianist Kiyo Wada and the Ludvig Norman Strings, founded in 2023, he has recorded chamber pieces by Ludvig Norman and Ylva Skog, the majority of these recordings also being world premieres. On several occasions, Klas Gagge has been invited by the Friends of Stenhammar in Tokyo to participate in festivals of Swedish music. Klas Gagge was named Philharmonic Member of the Year in 2004.

Klas Gagge is active in programming chamber and orchestral music at Konserthuset. In addition, he is a participant in the Royal Swedish Academy of Music’s project Swedish Musical Heritage, which inventories older Swedish music for an online database. For Swedish Musical Heritage, Gagge has also made critical editions of works by Amanda Maier, Laura Netzel, Joseph Dente and Wilhelm Stenhammar.

In addition, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music has presented him with scholarships to study abroad the lives and works of Amanda Maier, Ingeborg von Bronsart and Laura Netzel.

Klas Gagge is the author of the first biography of Amanda Maier-Röntgen, published in 2024 (by Gidlunds förlag) as part of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's series on Swedish composers.
