A unique collaboration
A unique collaboration between Konserthuset Stockholm, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Konstfack.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of architect Ivar Tengbom’s distinguished concert hall in Stockholm, a milestone being celebrated in a variety of ways — including a competition born of a unique collaboration.
As part of the refurbishment of Konserthuset ahead of the centenary, the building’s old copper roofing was replaced. In connection with this, the idea emerged to invite students from Konstfack’s Jewellery and Corpus programme to create a number of objects under the theme “Carry a piece of Konserthuset with you”.
In a jury-assessed competition, three winning proposals are selected. These are produced and, from the autumn onwards, offered for sale in the Konserthuset shop — as a memento of a visit, a musical experience, or of the building itself with all its beautiful details.
Konserthuset provides the material. The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, through a grant from the Göran Lagervall Foundation, funds prize money for the participating students. The results of the competition are announced in early June, and the winners receive their awards in connection with The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert on 16 September.
